CHARLES HUDSON
Charles Hudson was born in Pennsylvania in 1825. He married Miss Amanda Bastedo in October of 1853 in Wisconsin. He enlisted in the 33rd Wisconsin Infantry on August 15, 1862. He was 6 feet 3 inches tall, with brown hair, blue eyes, and a heavy build.
Corporal Hudson was injured while climbing over a fence shortly after he enlisted, and he spent most of his 9 months of Civil War service in hospitals in Holly Springs and Oxford, Mississippi, and La Grange and Memphis, Tennessee. In May of 1863 he was discharged from service as “ unfit for duty “ and sent home to Wisconsin.
After the war, Mr. Hudson and his family of 5 children lived in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri before moving to Garden Grove sometime before 1890. His occupation was farmer, and while here his primary crop was fruit. He died from a heart attack on November 18, 1906, at age 81.
